Sanjoy Mahajan is Associate Professor of Applied Science and Engineering at Olin College of Engineering. He previously taught electrical and mechanical engineering at MIT and physics at the University of Cambridge. He was a founding faculty member of the African Institute for Mathematical Sciences in Cape Town and was its first Curriculum Director.

He obtained his PhD in theoretical physics from the California Institute of Technology, after undergraduate degrees in physics from Stanford and in mathematics from Oxford, where he was a Marshall Scholar. Inspired by wonderful teachers, he has devoted his career to improving how we teach and learn science and engineering.

He is the author of Street-Fighting Mathematics: The Art of Educated Guessing and Opportunistic Problem Solving and The Art of Insight in Science and Engineering: Mastering Complexity, both published by MIT Press and available in print and online under a Creative Commons Noncommercial ShareAlike license.

He lives in Cambridge, Massachusetts with his family.
